"A beautiful & confident home full of thoughtful, well designed features... We felt welcome from the word go."

LGBTQ+ friendly Malta

We celebrate the fact that in these last few years there has been a revolution on this little island. In October 2015, ILGA-Europe ranked Malta 1st in terms of LGBT rights out of 49 observed European countries. After introducing civil partnership in 2014, the country has also legalised same-sex marriage in 2017.

Embraced by history

What is it that makes an accommodation LGBTQ+ friendly? Is it the stylish interiors, is it the colourful fabrics? As a gay couple, the thing which makes us feel most welcome on our travels is the knowledge that we don't need to explain or justify who we are, and that our hosts welcome us with open arms.

Gay friendly holiday rental

As a gay couple, we understand that need because we've been there. Frankly, we feel that the world is fascinating precisely because of diversity. What a dull world it would be otherwise.

This 16th Century townhouse is also unique, refurbished with original pieces, dare we say with a touch of eccentricity. Its 400 year history will embrace you and whisper stories of past guests, each one individual a distinctive soul, some, who knows, perhaps even mavericks who questioned status quo - the Inquisitor's Palace is only a stone's throw away. If you allow it, Indulgence Divine is sure to offer you spaces to discover, a sanctuary to revel in. See more pictures and information on the house.

"Stepping off a narrow street, through an inconspicuous door and up a set of old stone stairs, the ancient, 16th-century limestone architecture quickly shapeshifts into a sizeable, modern duplex apartment with vaulted, double-height ceilings.

Romantic

Well, your holiday is what you make it – we can’t move the mountains for you – but we have made all that is possible to make the environment conducive to luuurve!

Where else would you find a double bed topped by a romantic canopy featuring Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights in a room that used to be the house chapel of a 450 year old townhouse. We’ve also installed a double shower in an en-suite with sensuous curvy lines for... well you know, wherever your imagination might take you.

The island’s pleasant weather will entice you upstairs to your very own roof terrace to enjoy an evening drink under the stars when you decide to stay put.

Going to town

You'd want a unique accommodation to share with your partner and Indulgence Divine fits the bill, but location is as important part of the package.

The walled city of Vittoriosa is small in size but there's nothing bijou about its history. When its first settlers, the Pheonicians, built a temple to their chief female deity Astarte, its name was Birgu. Only after the Knights of the Order of St John made it their home in 1530 for its proximity to the harbour, and consequently won a war against the mighty Ottoman Empire (The Great Siege - 1565), did Birgu also become known as Vittoriosa - the victorious. Indulgence Divine is situated right behind the Inquisitor's Palace and close to the exclusive yacht marina. Click for more info.

Your hosts

We thought it would be great to introduce ourselves so we found this appearance on Malteses local tv from 2004. Before gay marriage was even recognised in the UK, London's mayor Ken Livingstone invited LGBT+ couples to celebrate their relationship at the Greater London Authority Headquarters to make the point that the state should recognise gay relationships. We celebrated 22 years ago - we are still fabulously together! Language is Maltese but I'm sure you'll get the gist.

Transgender traveller

To most travellers, preparing for a holiday entails researching the best flight connection and looking up their destination's attractions, restaurants and cafes. Gattaldo met with Mina Jack Tolu, trans activist and consultant on trans and non-binary matters to give us tips on how best to ensure a trouble-free holiday. Read article here.

The Genuine Article

I can be extremely possessive with friendships but some friends you just can't keep to yourself. One such friend is radio and TV personality Angela Coleiro. Catching up over a cup of coffee, we're constantly interrupted by people coming over to say hello. I ask Angela what it's like being a trans woman living in Malta. Read article here
